Myah OS 3.0 Beta 1

Myah OS 3.0 Beta 1 is now available. This first beta release debuts many long awaited features. Myah OS users now have the ability to Add or Update package right over the Internet. It also includes a Full hard drive installer and a USB live installer.     The Myah OS Package Management System is now a full suite of programs. It's all based on shell scripts. A shell script is the most basic form of programming where many shell commands are brought together in 1 file to automate a task. When written properly these scripts can be very powerful. Since each script is made of of many simple shell commands, a programmer is no longer required to understand them. New to Beta 1 is the Graphical front end that allows the user to Install, Update and Remove packages. Myah OS will also check against the www.myah.org server for updates. If updates are found for your system, a blinking icon with appear in the system tray. If you need to update Myah OS or just want to install some new programs, the package manager will let you know what is available on the server. After you make your choice of packages, the packages will be pulled over to the Internet and install them. If the package requested had dependents that are not installed, this will be downloaded and installed. Again this whole system was written with shell scripts and has shown to work quite well.     Another new feature is the Myah Live Installer. This program will make it easy to take your Myah OS live CD and install it fully onto your hard drive. It is very simple and straight forward. It will give you the choice of ext3, xfs or reiserfs file system formats. You will also have the choice to install lilo boot loader into your master boot record, partition or not to install at all. It should also attempt to configure lilo for any Linux or windows installations on your computer. For those who have a PC that will boot off of a USB thumb drive there is also an option for that. It will take your USB and repartition your USB for a single DOS partition. It will then format it with FAT 32 format. It will install Myah OS to it as a Live install. This will create a USB flash drive that will run just like a Live CD.     As always Myah OS comes with the light weight and very powerful XFCE desktop. It has full multimedia and DVD support. But if you would like to add the KDE desktop to Myah OS or maybe just a video driver, it's all just a couple mouse clicks away.
